My Story

As a teacher, I wanted to be Mary Poppins and the Pied Piper all rolled into one person. I just wanted to give children a spoonful of sugar and that is kind of what my books are about…a spoonful of sugar to help them love reading. My books are designed to become favorite books for generations today and tomorrow because they incorporate the characteristics found in folk literature that have captivated children and adults through the ages. My books are designed to build vocabulary and knowledge while providing moral lessons.

My parenting books provide guides for parents and educators by sharing interactive reading techniques to be used with young children.  Parents and educators of young children learn how to encourage children’s participation during the reading process and how to make books have meaning through follow-up activities.

Birds Being Birds

I woke up one morning singing in my head, “I was walking in the park one day.” My thought of the music flowing through my head was the inspiration for this book, Birds Being Birds.

Combining the thoughts of a beautiful park scene with my goal to write a simple easy to read book for young children using a rhythmic pattern.

How to read to Children- A Parenting Handbook

Books can be a catalyst for building stronger relationships by talking, reading, and listening. This handbook shares initial strategies for parents who really want to make a difference in preparing their child for reading with understanding.

This book evolved from a nationally recognized reading training program that was developed as a part of a US Department of Education tutor training grant. Dr. Richardson’s interest in literacy and children’s literature led to the writing and publishing of the Teeny Tiny Tadpole and Little Lilly Ladybug written with folk literature characteristics.
